Personal Branding: Choose The Right Colors or Fail!

Personal Branding

I’ve seen many professionals and entrepreneurs fall into the abyss of mixed signals. Their objective was clear, their logo was intact, and their tagline was precise, but the summary of those counter parts did not equal their brand message.

Where they failed is where most people fail, they forgot to do color research before choosing the colors for their brands.

Fact: The right color combination is vital to people understanding your brand message.

I know what most of you are thinking, “I’ve already chosen a color scheme that I’m comfortable working with, and plus restructuring my brand now would cause some serious inconsistency issues.”

Here’s my answer to that: A major fundamental in building your personal brand is understanding it isn’t always about you. The colors you choose for your brand have less to do with what you personally like, and more of what makes sense to your audience. So, yea it might cost you a few hours and even a couple extra dollars to get your personal brand colors on the right track, but it is worth it.

Colors invoke emotional responses. Here’s a simple list that can help you decide if you are using the right ones in your brand.

Red –excitement, strength, sex, passion, speed, danger
Blue –(listed as the most popular color) trust, reliability, belonging, coolness
Yellow –warmth, sunshine, cheer, happiness
Orange – playfulness, warmth, vibrant
Green – nature, fresh, cool, growth, abundance
Purple –royal, spirituality, dignity
Pink – soft, sweet, nurture, security
White –pure, virginal, clean, youthful, mild. (This one is black for obvious reasons)
Black –sophistication, elegant, seductive, mystery
Gold – prestige, expensive
Silver – prestige, cold, scientific

Getting The Right Colors Into Your Brand

Step 1)

The first thing you want to do when restructuring your personal brand colors is pick a combination of at least 2 colors that represent the characteristics of your brand.

Step 2)

Implement your colors into your logo, your website, business cards, and all of your social media profiles.

Step 3)

Try to wear clothes with your brand colors in every professional situation when possible! You can still wear other colors you like but try to limit it to leisure time with family and friends.

Most people fail in implementing their colors into their brand because they just don’t feel like they have the expertise to pick awesome color combinations. If you need help try talking to an artist you might personally know, or visit this very cool website: Color Combinations for amazing color combos!

I hope this post added some value to you and your personal brand. So, what color combinations are you using to represent your brand? I’d love to hear your feedback.
