Personal Branding: Grabbing The Wheel Before You Crash into a Wall!
In life we’re not only entitled but guaranteed a personal brand. Whether we’re aware of it or not, everyday we shape our personal brands. The values people attach to us determine what we’re worth to them. It can be a scary world when the people we care about the most, and even the ones who have the power to change our lives dramatically attach the wrong values to us.
Grab the wheel and take control of your Personal Brand. Avoid the wall of brand confusion, or you’ll end up like the others before you who passively disappear into a ball of flames.
Here are 5 Steps to taking Control of Your Personal Brand before you wreck it!
1. Find out what you love to do. Discover what you’re passionate about.
2. Ask people for their honest opinions about what they think you stand for.
3. Assess the honest opinions against what you believe to be true about yourself.
4. Start associating your brand with the values you believe in.
5. Support others who who believe in what you believe in.
Once you realize that your brand has been out of control, you’re half way to correcting the problem. The only thing worse then failing at something in life, is not realizing you’re failing at it.
What steps are you taking to control your brand image?

Hi Karl, Thanks for bringing up the most important part which is “Find out what you love to do. Discover what you’re passionate about.” It is only when you fully accept yourself as a human being with an important gift to give others then can you truly radiant in your true potential. There’s nothing more attractive than a person who is ‘going after what they love’ and that nothing, absolutely nothing can stop them.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom Karl

Hi City,
Thanks for including me in your “Personal Branding Stars of The Week!” I greatly appreciate the mention and support.
You’ve made some solid points here. I hope you don’t mind if I point out a distinction that I think should be made in your #3 step to take control of your personal brand:
“Assess the honest opinions against the way you’d like to be seen.”
I think that should be stated: “Assess the honest opinions against what you believe to be true about yourself.”
Because branding is about what is authentically you, if you base your brand on how you’d like to be seen, you’d be defining the brand you aspire to be, instead of who you actually are now, and the value you offer potential employers, partners, or customers now. It’s important to communicate the brand that you can actually live up to right now.
Maybe your goal is to be valued for certain characteristics or expertise that you’re working on, but don’t possess yet. Once you reach those goals, it may be time to revisit and rebrand.

@Therese, I couldn’t agree with you more!
The importance of contributing our passions to enhance other people’s lives is the cornerstone of our success.
@Meg, you’re welcome, and you’re absolutely right.
“Assess the honest opinions against what you believe to be true about yourself.”
Authenticity is the framework for building a great personal brand. Thanks for the comment!
