Personal Branding: Who’s Going To Finish What You Started?
I remember when I was kid one of my main problems was finishing projects.
I’d take hours to plan something out, come up with this completely ingenious strategy of how things would come together, and half way through building it, I’d come up with an even better idea, and start working on that.
One year instead of turning in my 7th grade project, I handed my teacher a 5 page essay on 20 possibilities for one.
She was nice, and gave me a “C”.
Continuing to high school, the word’s of my guidance counselor pull me back to the day I was forced to sit in her office. I’d fallen behind in school work and was convinced I was going to get it. Instead, she listened to me explain my situation for 10 minutes, and in the end said, “You’ve got to find something you like and stick with it. A great idea won’t do you any good if you don’t commit to making it work. That’s the way the world works you know.” I nodded my head even though it wasn’t a question. Then she said, “Now, leave.”
Her true words of wisdom, still guide me in those moments when I lose focus.
Too many people start out building something great, something that would’ve been utterly breathtaking had they had enough drive to complete it.
Sometimes, it’s this amazing dream of building a brand and a name for themselves inside an industry. Halfway through, they throw in the towel and start building a brand around something else.
My suggestion is, find your passion and stick with it, stay focused, and don’t lose sight of the dream before it has a chance of becoming real.
Are you the type of person who starts more projects then you finish?

A great article – I couldn’t agree more, I often think about this sort of thing when driving through the costa del sol – all those abandoned building sites!! I like blogging about similar topics so if you get a moment, take a look – http://www.logotastic.co.uk/blog
keep up the good work!!
Hi City Sylvester,
Cool name! I’m a recovering info-load.
During the last few years I have thrown out the clutter and focus on a few that I really wanted to take with me … for life. Now that’s quite a scary commitment but I don’t think it’s commitment I’m scared of, it’s more of the vast variety of choices which I’ll miss out of. So I’ve reached a conclusion that it’s either do or don’t.
When you really look at it in terms of black and white, it’s much simpler. Well you can’t look at all things that way, but making decisions and simplifying it so that you don’t go on a tangent is really one way of being successful. At least I think so. This is interesting because I will be talking about this topic soon. As in the value of now.
Thanks for the discussion,
Talk soon.

It sounds like you have an issue with trusting the decisions you make. I still second guess myself at times, a problem I’m trying to overcome.
Continue to strive for simplified thoughts, and being aware of how your mind works when it comes to making decisions.
