The Branding Story: Mohammed Al-Taee
Everyone one of us has a unique story to tell, maybe not as memorable as the one’s we’ve read by our favorite authors, but each significant, full of invaluable lessons and backbreaking obstacles.
Today our story is about a man most of the personal branding community knows to well.
He’s constructed one of the greatest lists I’ve seen up to date on Twitter for personal branding consultants, is an established king of building relationships both on and offline, and most recently a new addition to the citizens of Washington D.C.
Me: Mohammed, why do you have such a remarkable passion for personal branding?
Mohammed: From 2003-2005, I worked as an IT Manager with an employment and vocational training program in Baghdad, Iraq. There were millions of job seekers after the war, and we were working to develop programming to help as many of them as possible.
Though my primary responsibility was to maintain the IT and training facilities in 19 employment centers, I ended up personally meeting more than 5,000 people who were looking for work.
“Every one of them had the same traditional resume. It didn’t even show 10% of their strengths.”
Moved by the needs of so many people, I began volunteering my assistance both on and offline.
I helped job seekers discover where they wanted to go with their careers and brand themselves to stand out from the competition. That was my inspiration to jump into the personal branding industry, and brand myself as a person who could help others build their brands.
Me: What do you think makes you unique as a personal branding consultant?
Mohammed: It’s so great when your personal brand speaks on your behalf. I’ll never answer that question now or in the future. Google my name and check out for yourself what people are saying about me on Twitter, Linkedin, my blog, 360 reach and Personal Branding Guy Page on Facebook.
Me: What is the hardest challenge you had to overcome so far in life?
Mohammed: The hardest challenge was in Iraq, where I and many other Iraqis spent 20 years living in war and isolation. It was tough being disconnected from the world. Most the time we lived in darkness as there was no electricity. I like many Iraqi’s never surrendered, and continued the fight for my dreams. You don’t need to be a soldier to understand what war is and its consequences. We all know the challenges of death.
Me: You’ve come a long way since those events transpired. These days, what motto would you say you live by?
Mohammed: “Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” ~ Gandhi
Me: Tell us a fun fact about you. What’s your favorite movie right now?
Mohammed: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I watched that movie at least 30+ times
Me: Nice. I loved the graphics in the trilogy, great choice. Mohammed its been a pleasure interviewing you. You’ve put so many others in the spotlight, and taken a step back countless times; you’ve used your blog to showcase other people’s talents, and for that I applaud you.
Mohammed: I’m honored to be the 1st to share this story on your great blog. Thank You!
