The Branding Story: Matt Chevy

Matt Chevy
Everyone one of us has a unique story to tell, maybe not as engaging as the one’s we’ve read by our favorite authors, but each significant, full of invaluable lessons, and backbreaking obstacles.
Born and raised in the heart of Tennessee, this Nashville resident is no stranger to the social media and internet marketing community. The demand for this man grows every time he speaks. Recently he’s been invited to the Rise of Social Commerce conference in Palo Alto and Pivot Conference in NYC this October. A man who one day won’t need an introduction, will definitely get one today. The one, the only, Mr. Matt Chevy.
Fill in the blank. Matt Chevy internet marketer by day, blank by night. What other passions are you actively pursuing in life?
Internet Marketer by day, Internet Marketer by night. Admittedly, I work too much – it’s a blessing and a curse and working to get that ‘work life balance’ back in my life is just that, a work in progress.
Mostly though, it’s a good thing because I absolutely love what I do and I am extremely fortunate to be in the situation I’m in today – somewhere I never thought I’d be a year ago.
You’ve got two cool blogs going on “Life Without Pants” and “Matt Chevy Blog” which one of them should we being paying the most attention to?
So MattChevy is a business website. The blog is there and my original intention was for that to be where I shared tutorials and marketing insight – it never really took off and I’ve always called Life Without Pants my blogging ‘home’.
With the new business now public, we’ll have a very active blog authored by my partner and I, and other guests. Content Marketing will be a big push and we want the new companies site to be an ‘experience’ for our visitors.
On your blog “Life Without Pants” you have a highlighted section called “the Epiphany Moment” when did you have your epiphany moment to start a career as an internet marketer?
The Epiphany Moment is one of the things I am most proud of that has come about from my blog. It never took off as much as I would have liked because when I launched it, I was in the midst of starting my business and, well, I needed to put food on the table before I could spend time pursuing cool side projects.
To your point – I was fired from my 9-5 in February and almost immediately I knew I wanted to at least TRY to do my own thing.
I tell people that two hours after I got fired I became an entrepreneur. In reality, I thought long and hard about it, talked to my wife about it, consulted with family and friends, and the next week I got to work building MATTCHEVY (the business).
How different would you say you are now from your high school days? Any regrets from the past?
Totally different. Like, night and day different. I can’t even begin to describe how much I’ve changed since then – for the better – but I’ll also never forget my ‘roots’ and I still have a good laugh with old friends about our high school antics.
Even superheroes have weaknesses. What is Matt Chevy’s unadulterated fear?
Biggest fear? That I’ll get in my own way. I genuinely believe that YOU are your biggest obstacle. No one else, nothing else.
I think that’s my biggest fear – that I won’t be able to shake the fear of failure. We all have that fear – I use it as motivation but just like any other fear – it’s pretty damn scary.
You’ve become quite proficient in engineering colossal mind benders. Tell us about some of the new projects you’re working on right now.
I’ve alluded to it already but my new company Proof, a full service branding agency, is officially off the ground. That is my new baby.
MattChevy the person will still be around, but the business is closing it’s doors and I am 100% invested into the new business.
I’m fortunate to have an amazing partner that I respect and admire, and a great team of people around me that I’m going to learn a ton from and take over the world with.
Matt its been a pleasure! Thanks for sharing your story with us, I feel closer already.

That is a very good interview, glad that I read it.
“I tell people that two hours after I got fired I became an entrepreneur.” this is a very strong statement, people become entrepreneur because they get tired of the system. Keep the hard work.
